Visionary Oiva Toikka’s iconic collection of Iittala glass birds first took flight in 1972 at the Nuutajärvi glass factory. In 2014 the production of the series was transferred to the Iittala Glass Factory, where Toikka continued his close collaboration with the glassblowers. Nature and Toikka’s passion for blown glass art gives every bird unique details that make it a truly one of a kind art object. Handcrafted and mouthblown at the Iittala Glass Factory, the Birds by Toikka collection embodies a rich fusion of glassmaking traditions and Toikka’s hands-on-approach with his team of master craftsmen. Birds by Toikka Barn Owl is a symbol of wisdom and good fortune. His vivid colours come from the glass itself, not from paint. Filigree tape has been used to create the bird’s rich plumage.
